Affiliate Disclosure
Some links on this site pay us when you buy. Here is exactly which ones, what that money is not allowed to buy, and what we do when we have not tested something.
Which links are affiliate links
Links to Amazon.com carry our Amazon Associates tag, and links to Audible carry our Audible affiliate tag. You can see the tag in the address bar of the destination page as a tag= parameter. Adding it does not change the price you pay.
Every other link on this site — to publishers, agencies, standards bodies, Wikipedia, our own archive pages — is a plain link that pays us nothing.
What the money is
Amazon Associates pays a percentage of what you spend within a short window after clicking our link, at rates that differ by product category. Audible pays a fixed amount for a membership that starts from our link. Rates change, and we do not control them. We will not publish a commission figure we have not checked on the day we write it.
What it does not buy
- A score. Review scores come from the criteria printed in the review itself.
- Placement. A product that pays more does not move up a list.
- Silence. If a cheaper device does the job, the review says so, and we link to that one too.
- Claims we cannot support. We do not write "we tested" unless the protocol — device, hours, conditions, criteria — appears in the piece.
When we have not tested something
Say so, plainly. A comparison built from published specifications is useful, and it is not a test. On this site, spec-based pieces are labelled as comparisons; the word "tested" is reserved for hardware we used, with the method printed in the article.
Prices and trademarks
Prices shown on this site carry a verification date and are accurate as of that date. Retail prices change without notice. Product names, box art and screenshots belong to their respective publishers and manufacturers; we use them to identify the things we are writing about. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
Corrections
If a price, a spec, a date or a claim on a page is wrong, tell us and we will fix the page and note the correction. The byline block on each article names the desk responsible for it.
